WOW!!
5 stars ( out of 5)!!
This was the best movie I saw all year!!
This was the best 3-D movie I have ever seen!!
"Avatar was groundbreaking ,  I haven't seen anything this fresh or sweet for 10 years  ( Re: Matrix )
When his brother is killed in battle, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the procedure that will repair his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.
The story was GREAT. I was expecting some false notes, or unbelievable saves, but I was pleasantly surprised to see beloved supporting characters die off in appropriate numbers. The action was superb, the romance was believable. It had lots of time to bloom, unlike your typical movie 2 day romance. The sci fi was fantastic, but not ludicrous. The science and weaponry was spot on. I found myself looking for flaws, because none jumped out at me. Perhaps because of my critical nature ( of films ) or just the fact that I usually see flaws and bad plot points coming at me fast and furious, I tried to see something to complain about. I nearly failed... The only weak point of the movie for me was the overly ecological preaching. And even that was not so bad that it spoiled the movie for me.
The cinematography was beautiful, the 3-D was groundbreaking. Instead of people pushing guns, or fingers or swords in your face to demonstrate the 3-D, most of the time it was atmosphere that broke the fourth wall and came out into our seats. Bugs flying around, branches, grass, and subtitles were the things that bulged out the most often. It may sound cliché or trite, but the  3-D format really added a new dimension to the imagery. Be warned, it is shown in 3-D and non 3-D, you definitely want to make sure you buy tickets for the 3-D version.
I laughed, I cried, I sat down and cheered. (only because if I stood up to cheer the guy behind me might have got mad)
Who wants to go see it with me?, I want to go again! Is this available for sale yet? Yes,  I am going to BUY this movie. (how's that for praise?)  Way to Go James Cameron, I see why you took 12 years off of film-making, just don't take off another 12 years, ok?
