This is a
romantic/fantasy/adventure tale of wonder and excitement. If you want to
see an uplifting film that doesn't preach, where flawed characters
overcome all odds, this is the ticket. Unless your soul is dead, you
will find at least some element of this film that appeals to you |

The title character, the slumdog,
Jamal, is a poor kid from the slums, who becomes a contestant on the
Indian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire" He does not enter to
win riches, but rather to send a message of love to Latika, his
childhood sweetheart. Latika is a fan of the show and he knows that she
always watches it. Since she is being held as a doxy/slave to a gangster
leader, it is the only way he can communicate with her. |

The script is great, the shots
are well constructed, the story flows, the music is inspiring, The
ending was rewarding, I can't think of any sour notes that were hit.
This movie earns the coveted Dunker score of 5/5 stars. Although this
movie takes place in India, it is NOT a bollywood movie. There is a
bollywood dance number at the end credits, but that was just like icing
on the cake. |
