List of all "Best Picture" winners ever Oscars by Genre	Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences meet to honor the top of their field. The Academy Award, affectionately known as "the Oscar" represents the best achievements of the year in the opinion of those who themselves reside at the top of their craft. Even though the award process is very political, it is the benchmark of excellence recognized by film makers everywhere. It is the sort of thing that people put in obituaries, resumes, tombstones, and is shouted on high by the press agents, and talent agents of  industry professionals everywhere. "The one cinematic constant through all the years, has been the Oscars. American cinema has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But the Oscars have marked the time. This award, it's a part of our past. It reminds of us of all that once was good in American Cinema and how good it could be again."
